After the passing of her husband, Joyce knew she no longer wanted to live alone. Her advice to others considering retirement living is honest and compassionate: it is normal for the change to feel uncomfortable at first. Moving from a longtime home can be stressful, and it takes time to adjust. What once felt unfamiliar—like earlier mealtimes—can eventually become something to anticipate and enjoy.
Joyce’s love of music, travel, and family
Music and travel have always been important parts of Joyce’s life. She has explored many places and proudly keeps a display of travel photographs that celebrate those memories. Family, however, remains her greatest joy. A devoted mother of three, she built a meaningful career first as a nurse and later with Bell Canada, a role that allowed her more time with loved ones. Today, she smiles knowing her granddaughter now works at Bell as well. Joyce often reflects on the words of a favourite song about following dreams, a message that continues to guide her outlook on life.
Treasured moments with grandchildren
At this stage, Joyce finds inspiration in her children and grandchildren. A treasured gold medal from her grandchild naming her the “number one grandma with the craziest songs” is one of her most cherished keepsakes.
Life’s small delights at Millwood
Since moving to The Millwood, Joyce has rediscovered simple pleasures she never had time for before. She now enjoys puzzles, word games, Sudoku, and crosswords—activities her husband once loved. She feels grateful for her well-being, for the many people she has met throughout her life, and for everyday joys like fresh cookies, peaceful walks to Bayview, and small moments of independence.

With responsibilities like cooking, cleaning, and laundry taken care of, she is free to rest, reflect, and choose how she wants to spend each day.
